Bert Wijbenga - van Nieuwenhuizen is Mayor of Vlaardingen. Vlaardingen's diverse population demands a genuine and sincere effort by mayor and city council to improve the inclusion of everyone. In the coming years he will thus work to improve city safety; reduce social vulnerability in Westwijk; develop an mbo city, and realize many additional housing units. He has previously worked as alderman and deputy mayor of Rotterdam. In these positions, he was also responsible for integration issues and worked on political and social issues such as Stop Zwarte Piet, LGBT violence, sexual street harassment, and slavery history.
